[NEWS] July 8, 2014 - Midsummer Update
We kicked off our summer the way we have for the past decade -- at Summer Camp Music Festival over Memorial Day weekend! Highlights from our 11th year included a set at the Thursday preparty with the Third Coast Horns, an impromptu jam between Victor Wooten and our bassist Janis, and backstage hangtime with some of our favorite artists (photos below!).
Our summer fun continues this weekend with stops at two of the Midwest's best beer joints: Mackey's Hideout in McHenry, IL and the famous Bell's Brewery in Kalamazoo. At the end of the month, we bring back the Third Coast Horns for a set at Merchant Street Music Festival in Kankakee IL on July 25 (which is a free show, btw!). And of course, we cap off the summer with Shoe Fest at the end of August.
Stay cool and see you at the shows!
[NEWS] March 17, 2014 - Come On Spring!
It's been a bear of a winter, and it seems
as though we've got a little further to go, but as far as FGC is concerned,
March and April = spring touring. The band had a blast last week at Durty
Nellies in Palatine - many thanks to all of you who came out! Next up
are shows in two of the band's favorite venues. First, FGC will be back
at Martyrs' on March 28, followed by a trip up to Milwaukee
for a performance at the Miramar
Theatre on March 29. Early April will see the band make stops
in Peoria and Iowa City, and we'll be wrapping up April at the
Redstone Room in Davenport on April 26. Stay tuned for more dates,
and of course we all cannot wait for Memorial Day Weekend and another
killer summer kick-off at Summer Camp! See you all at the shows!
[NEWS] November 12, 2013 - Thanksgiving shows!
We've had a fun fall run thus far, kicking off at Shoe Fest in September, followed by shows at some of our favorite spots (Dekalb, we love you!), and wrapping up with our Medeski Martin & Wood Brothers Halloween shows. At the end of this month, we're excited to bring you not one, but TWO, special Thanksgiving shows.
On Black Wednesday (11/27), we rally up the hometown crew for a show at the brand new 27 Live in Evanston IL, with good friends Old Shoe and EGi. This is an 18+ show!
On Black Friday (11/29), we hit our home-away-from-home, the Redstone Room in Davenport, IA to work off all that Thanksgiving turkey.
Be sure to RSVP to the Facebook events to be automatically entered to win FREE TICKETS and other prizes!
[NEWS] June 20, 2013 - Summer's Here!
Well, it took a little time, but the 94 degree weather we're expecting at the Irish District Music and Arts Festival in Iowa this weekend tells us summer is finally here.
Notwithstanding the slow start to summer temps, the band had a blast last month at Summer Camp! Although campers were harassed by cold nights and torrential rain for most of the weekend, both of FGC's sets were treated to sunshine and warm weather. Once again, the big highlight was the Thursday night pre-party set, which was as high-energy as ever!
Sit-ins were again in full effect this year, with Janis taking the prize for busiest FGC member. Janis held down the low end for Allie Kral and Friends' late night set, for Victor Wooten's VIP set, for Jaik Willis's late night set, and for Joe Marcinek's Sunday afternoon set.
Jordan also joined Victor Wooten on keys for a VIP Tent set that included takes on The Chicken, Chameleon, and several freely improvised jams.
And the sit-ins went both ways. In keeping with what has become something of a tradition, Allie Kral from Cornmeal joined the band again Thursday night for FGC's pre-party set. This year Allie and the band treated the crowd to a fiddle-charged rendition of FGC's One Eye Dreaming. Roosevelt Collier, who also sat in with Janis and Jordan in Victor Wooten's VIP set, also joined FGC on lap steel guitar for a take on Melvin Seals' Movin' and Groovin' at the band's Friday afternoon set.
Another incredible (if a bit wet and chilly) Summer Camp in the books...we already can't wait for Summer Camp 2014!
Looking forward, the band is happy to report that festival season is well underway. This weekend FGC will be making headlining appearances at the Browntown Festival in Michigan City, IN, and the Irish District Music and Arts Festival in Cedar Rapids, IA. And July will see the band headlining the Nippersink Festival in McHenry, IL, returning to Camp Euforia in Lone Tree, IA for a special late night set, and then joining good friends Mr. Blotto at their Blottopia Festival in Elgin, IL.
Everyone in FGC world is very excited to finally be kicking summer into gear. More summer dates will be announced shortly, and, believe it or not, it won't be long before we have some announcements for Fall Tour as well, so stay tuned to the website and official facebook page for all the latest.
Have a great start to the summer! See you all out at the shows!
[NEWS] January 27, 2013 - Gearing Up For Winter Touring!
Happy New Year to you all, we hope you all had a great New Year's Eve. The band had a blast ringing in the new year in Peoria at the Grand Hotel Ballroom - big thanks to all of you who came out and helped make it such an unforgettable night!
Everyone in the FGC family has been enjoying a few weeks' worth of much needed rest, but cabin fever is definitely starting to set in, and the band can't wait to get back out and hit the road. First up will be a hometown headlining appearance at Winter Peace Fest at the Portage Theater on Saturday, February 16. Then the band will be off to Northern Illinois University for a very special two-night run at the House Café in Dekalb February 22-23. As a special thank you to all the great folks that have supported the band at the House over the years, the first set each night will be comprised solely of fan requests - send us yours here!
Looking ahead into March, FGC is eagerly awaiting returns to Stevens Point, Springfield, Milwaukee and Madison.
2013 touring will soon be underway! Look for more dates to be announced shortly, and we'll see you all at the shows!
